Kim Wilson, one of the original founders of the band, still spearheads the group as it evolves into its’ newest incarnation. "We started as a straight blues band", vocalist and harmonica player Wilson says. "We now incorporate a mixture of a lot of different styles. We’re an American music band and we’re much higher energy than we were before."… Not bad for a band that’s been around more than 25 years.

Jimmie Vaughan formed the Fabulous Thunderbirds with Wilson in 1974. It was 12 years later that their break through album “Tuff Enough” was released. With songs “Wrap It Up” and “Tuff Enough” helping out, the album quickly reached platinum status. Four years after that, in 1990, Vaughn broke off from the T-Birds to pursue his solo career. Wilson also pursued solo projects in the nineties, but reassembled the band again in 1994 to record their 9th album. Following its release, the band returned to actively touring the United States bringing their high-energy brand of roadhouse blues to a whole new generation of blues fans. In 2005, Wilson reassembled the band yet again and released Painted On which was produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos.

Gruene Hall has seen most of the incarnations of the T-Birds, all of whom have held up to the T-Bird reputation. Along with Kim Wilson (vocals & harmonica), the current lineup of The Fabulous Thunderbirds features Johnny Moeller (guitar), Mike Keller (guitar), Randy Bermudes (bass), and Jay Moeller (drummer).
